When it comes to a professional looking, perfectly fitted trouser - so many elements are factors in how it fits and looks, these are tricky to perfect. 

Join this class and leave with the perfect trouser pattern and professionally fitted mock up garment, known as a ‘toile’ in the fashion industry.


The class consists of learning how to draft the trouser pattern (also known as a block)  from scratch, using only your measurements, a ruler and paper.


You will then make a mock up garment which will be professionally fitted by the tutor on you - noting fit amendments required. After altering the pattern you will have the perfect made to measure trouser pattern,which can be used to make many chic design variations.

Course information

This all day intensive workshop teaches you how to:


  • Take measurements accurately - the professional way. You will be taught how to take the many measurements required for your perfect fit trouser block.


  • How to draft a trouser block, utilising the same techniques used daily in the London Fashion Industry. 


  • How to add darts 


  • How to adapt the bottom, hip and rise to suit different proportions


  • How to alter the leg silhouette - skinny leg, cigarette leg, palazzo etc


  • How to make a toile as used in the industry for professional fitting (a mock up garment in muslin or calico)


* How to fit your toile, make necessary adjustments and how to apply to your paper pattern

What you will need to bring with you

  • Your sewing machine

  • A spool of thread

What you will need to buy in class

The calico required to make your toile (calico = £3/metre, you will need anywhere between 2 metres or slightly above depending on your dress size).

Skill level required to join class

This course is suitable for confident sewers who can use a machine unaided, and have completed several dressmaking projects to date. You can sew darts and have used a commercial sewing pattern several times with success and are ready to make a fitted bodice block!


* This course is not suitable for absolute beginner sewers, or beginner dressmakers who are not experienced in making dresses from commercial patterns.*
